Speaking and media

Invite Bart to speak

Bart Denny speaks to churches, men’s groups, ministry leaders and veterans, and he’s glad to talk about his books on podcasts, radio and video.

Before he was a pastor, Bart spent nearly twenty-two years in the Navy, from reactor operator on submarines to commanding a ship in the Persian Gulf.

Since then he has led a struggling church toward renewed health, bought books for a Christian bookstore, served as a hospital chaplain and earned a Ph.D. studying how pastors bring small churches back to life. Today he pastors a rural church in west Michigan and teaches Christian leadership at Grand Canyon University. He speaks plainly and from Scripture, and his stories come from his own life and ministry.

Talks

What Bart speaks about

What the military taught you about ministry

From Reassigned

Seven of the eleven pastors in Bart’s doctoral research had served in the armed forces. This talk looks at what military service forms in a person, which of those strengths belong in Christ’s service, and which habits have to be unlearned before they do harm in a congregation.

Good for: Veterans, church leadership teams, Veterans Day and Memorial Day services, seminaries

Human, still: faith and the technology coming to your church

From Human, Still

Artificial intelligence, gene editing and the push to “enhance” healthy people are no longer science fiction, and church members are already making decisions about them. Bart offers a way to think these questions through from Scripture without fear or naïve enthusiasm.

Good for: Adult classes, pastors and staff, parents, Christian schools and college groups

The limits of a man’s strength

From the forthcoming Strong to Save

Every man eventually finds the end of his own strength. Drawing on sea stories from his years in the Navy and on naval history, Bart talks with men about failure, fatigue, responsibility and the grace that meets them there.

Good for: Men’s breakfasts and retreats, one session or a full weekend

Small church, real health

From Bart’s Ph.D. research and his own pastorate

Most churches in America are small, and many are shrinking. Bart shares what he learned from pastors who led small, declining congregations back toward health, and from leading one himself: what helped, what didn’t, and what it cost them.

Good for: Pastors’ gatherings, church boards, denominational and district events

Should you write that book?

From True Bearing Press and years behind a bookstore’s buying desk

A practical, honest talk for people who feel called to write: what readers want, why editing goes far beyond a spell-check, and what the different ways of publishing really cost.

Good for: Writers’ groups, church members with a story to tell, Christian writers’ conferences

Bart also preaches as a guest, and he can shape any of these talks into a sermon, a workshop or a series. He’s based in west Michigan and does interviews anywhere by phone or video.
